Keep Active this Winter
Winter has come around and just because the temperature has started to drop, doesn’t mean your motivation needs to as well. We know winter introduces plenty of excuses to stay in bed but keeping your activity levels up will help keep you feeling your best!
Did you know that exercising in winter means your heart doesn't have to work as hard, you sweat less and expend less energy than in summer? Keeping active throughout the year also limits your chances of injury, as well as other health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke and more. It can be tough to keep active and motivated but remember doing something is better than nothing – even if you are only visiting our centre once or twice a week.
Here are some tips to help you stay moving this winter:
Stay Hydrated
It's just as important to keep your fluids up when exercising in winter as it is in summer, even though you might not feel as thirsty. Try to remember to drink water before, during and after a workout. If drinking water seems like a bit of a task, then carry a thermos with warm herbal tea!
Try something new
Our facility has a range of programs to be a part of, try something new this winter to mix up your workout and keep yourself interested. If you aren't sure what to try, have a chat with our friendly staff who will be able to help you out.
Get yourself a workout buddy
When you’ve only got yourself to rely on it is very easy to simply abandon your plans to get active, but as soon as there are others involved, you’re much less likely to want to bail. A workout buddy can also provide social support, camaraderie and distraction from the less-than-ideal weather. There is also the additional benefit of making friends and hanging out with like-minded people.
Set your optimal exercise time
Whether you are a morning person or a night owl – finding your best time to exercise is key to staying motivated this Winter. If you lose motivation when its dark and cold – then try working out early with a 7am session. Maybe you have some time on your lunch break to squeeze in a visit in centre or even a walk around the block. Find what works for you!
There are plenty of ways to keep active during winter despite the cooler weather. Keep your health a priority and be sure to engage in some sort of physical activity daily. For more information on how we can help you keep active, please chat with our friendly team.
